Should Langer play one-dayers for Australia?
« Thread Started on Nov 30, 2004, 10:34pm »

At Test level, Hayden and Langer have proved to be an amazing opening partnership. Not only do they have a huge average 1st wicket partnership, but they do it at an average over 4 runs per over.
Early in Langer's career, he'd never have been considered for the one-dayers, because he was much slower scoring then. But on form over the last 3 years at Test level, I think it would be worth a shot at bringing Langer into the one-day team.
Hayden's been a useful part of the team for many years, and has opened with Gilchrist in the one-dayers. But it's asking rather a lot of Gilchrist to both open and keep wicket; and his explosive batting would be more suited down the order during the later overs.

What say the rest of you?

After the way our middle order's fallen away so dramatically in both the one-dayers so far, I'm more convinced we need Langer up there opening and freeing up Gilchrist down the order.

We could have done with him on Friday night. The way the batting collapsed was rather alarming, and a solid batsman like Justin Langer would have stopped the rot.
But luck was on Australia's side - saved by the rain. So frustrating for the Windies, who did everything right and deserved to pull off what would have been a remarkable upset.

Langer plays well in the domestic 1 day competition for the warriors when available so i think he should be given the chance to prove what he can do on the international arena!!

i think one of the reasons he hasn't been selected is the stupid selectors are relying more on youth in the side rather than having the experienced players!!! give Langer a go!!!!!!
